Restaurants have faced plenty of challenges in 2020, but despite this fact, Alexandria’s newly opened Elizabeth’s Counter has built up a strong reputation for its house-made pastries, plant-based cafe menu, and expertly prepared coffee and espresso drinks.

Occupying the space on North Henry that used to be Sugar Shack, Elizabeth’s carries the banner for baked goods in the neighborhood. The bakery case is chock full of classic pastries like cinnamon rolls and eclairs, and of course there is a huge variety of donuts (both vegan and non-vegan), including old-fashioned cake and glazed, and unique flavors like maple bacon and caramel sea salt. At lunch time you’ll find the menu tilting towards plant-based burgers, fried chicken sandwiches, Brussels sprouts bowls, and loaded French fries.

Between 7 am and 7 pm, you can order online for in-store pickup, or place a delivery order through Postmates or Doordash.
